While Donald Trump has claimed that he has a “great relationship with the blacks,” he has a history of discriminating against African Americans that have directly worked for him. In his 1991 book, Trumped!, the former president of Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino, John R. O’Donnell wrote that when speaking in reference to African Americans, Donald Trump claimed:
“Laziness is a trait in blacks. I’ve got black accountants at Trump Castle and at Trump Plaza. Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day.”
Some might argue that Mr. Trump’s reference to Jews being good with money is a compliment, but it is just another example of Donald Trump’s narrow-mindedness and willingness to assume a stereotype. He therefore managed to be offensive toward Jews and African Americans in one soundbite.
During a 1999 interview with Playboy magazine, Donald Trump responded to these allegations by stating that, “The stuff O’Donnell wrote about me is probably true.”
